Our commitment

The department is committed to ensuring you are supported to continue delivering world-class education for Queensland students.

While enterprise bargaining provides an opportunity to refresh and strengthen workplace conditions, there are also a range of non-industrial initiatives already underway which respond to a number of claims tabled by the Queensland Teachers' Union. Our commitments include:

  • a 25% reduction in red tape provides teachers with more time to focus on curriculum, teaching and learning
  • recognition that teachers are navigating significant challenges, with some students and families needing additional time and support. The More Teachers, Better Education Plan means teachers can focus on teaching, while students who need it most, benefit from targeted assistance
  • focus on safer, positive learning environments for the whole school community with our approach to anti-bullying, and our zero-tolerance policy for drugs, vapes and violence
  • additional support staff (including chaplains / wellbeing officers, teacher aides, speech/language pathologists and occupational therapists) to take the pressure off teachers and school leaders
  • comprehensive professional development in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and inclusion to equip teachers and school leaders with the skills to deliver quality education for students.

Alongside these important initiatives, the Queensland Government has signed up to the Better and Fairer Schools Agreement—Full and Fair Funding, which secures funding for Queensland state schools that will build over the next 10 years.

As part of these new 10-year federal funding and policy arrangements, the Queensland Government will deliver additional initiatives that improve the attraction and retention of teachers, reduce teacher and school leader workload and support teachers and school leaders by providing access to high-quality and evidence-based professional learning.

Our commitment to teaching staff

Negotiation update

In February, the Department of Education formally commenced negotiating a replacement certified agreement covering the employment of teachers, with a view to ensuring our teachers are supported to continue delivering what matters—world-class education for Queensland students.

On 27 June 2025, the department provided to the Queensland Teachers’ Union a Revised Offer to settle negotiations.
