You may have seen media reports about a global security incident affecting the Canvas platform provided by third-party provider Instructure. Canvas is used by educational institutions across the world.
The Queensland Department of Education uses Canvas for staff and student training.
Impacted data
Current advice from Instructure is that all names, email addresses and school locations for students and staff working or studying at the Department of Education since 2020 may be implicated.
We have received repeated assurances from Instructure that staff and students' financial information and passwords are not at risk.
In the meantime, families and students should be extra vigilant when it comes to eSafety.
The department is communicating with Instructure as the provider and working closely with the Queensland Government and National Cyber Security Units.
