Heritage management within departmental facilities
The Department of Education works closely with the
Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation to conserve and manage its assets of heritage significance. These can include:
- buildings, including schools and teacher residences
- landscapes, including ovals, shade structures, trees and playgrounds
- artefacts, including memorials and honour boards
- infrastructure, including equipment and furniture.
We manage these assets in accordance with the
design standards for departmental facilities and
The Burra Charter.
We collaborate with teachers, parents and care givers, school support staff, students and community groups, to:
- educate and involve the community through school curriculum activities
- support school communities to develop conservation management plans
- assist with nominations to state and local government heritage registers.
Contact the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation for further information on conserving and managing assets of heritage significance.
