Youth worker—Student Wellbeing

​​​​​​​​​As a youth worker in a school or region, you will work with students and their families to determine and implement strategies that help them have a more positive educational experience, including enhancing their social skills, assertiveness, self-esteem and problem-solving skills through a strengths-based approach to providing support.

About the role

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • work with students and their families to implement tailored strategies that support students' wellbeing and assist them to have a more positive educational experience
  • work with school teams to monitor students’ wellbeing and engagement, and intervene early by providing advice and guidance to address concerns
  • use a strengths-based approach when working with students to develop social skills and self-esteem, and support connection with peers and social networks
  • facilitate referrals to other professionals and services, and assist students and families to access this support.

Working with us

As a youth worker employed with the Department of Education, you will have access to a range of benefits including:

  • 12.75% in employer contributions and the employee contribution rate will default to 5%
  • annual leave, including recreation leave (4 weeks) and 17.5% loading on annual leave; sick leave (10 days); and accrual of long service leave (7 days)—if you work in a remote region, you will get an extra week of recreation leave (5 weeks in total)
  • accrued days off (ADO) to be used for school holidays

Mandatory requirements

In accordance with the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 (PDF, 781KB), you must hold a current Working with Children Check clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services to work in a school.
