Pre-employment checks
As part of the recruitment process, recommended applicants must complete relevant pre-employment checks before commencing employment with the department. These checks help confirm a person’s eligibility and suitability for the role.
Criminal history check (CHC) (if required)
A criminal history check is required for any employee or applicant who is a new or returning employee recommended for a permanent, temporary or casual position.
Where required, the applicant is to complete the
criminal history check consent form. The hiring manager is also responsible for sighting the required proof of identity.
If information is received that may exclude a person from further consideration, opportunity will be given to respond, and this information will be taken into account in the evaluation process.
Working with children checks (for relevant roles)
Where a Working with Children Check (blue card) is required, it is unlawful to offer or appoint an applicant without confirming they hold a valid blue card. For more information, visit

Qualification or professional registration (if required)
Some positions will require mandatory qualifications and/or professional registrations. Verification of relevant qualifications or professional registration is required for applicable roles.
International and overseas applicants will need to provide evidence of formal
overseas qualification recognition before applying or provide a statement which shows sufficient evidence of the Australian equivalent of qualifications.

Working rights must be confirmed in accordance with
section 47 of the
Public Sector Act 2022. Applicants must be either:
- an Australian citizen
- a permanent resident of Australia
- a New Zealand citizen who has entered Australia on a valid passport
- a non-citizen with a valid visa which provides the right to work in Australia.
