School playground and tuckshop upgrades

​As part of the Queensland Government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the educational opportunities available to Queensland children, the $20 million School Playground and Tuckshop Upgrades program supports the Department of Education’s Smart Choices initiatives in disadvantaged areas throughout Queensland.

Announced as part of the 2022–23 State Budget, the $10 million School Playground Upgrade program will fund improvements to school playgrounds in disadvantaged areas across Queensland.

The School Tuckshop Upgrade program will deliver an investment of $10 million to inspire young Queenslanders and their communities to create environments where student’s health and wellbeing is supported, with a focus on enhancing food offerings and healthy eating options made on site.

School playground upgrade​​s

School playground upgrades might include:

  • playgrounds
  • surface repair
  • soft fall areas (both new and upgraded)
  • shade cover structures over playgrounds (both new and upgraded).

School tuckshop upgrades

School tuckshop upgrades will deliver an investment in the health and wellbeing of students, providing new facilities or equipment that will allow schools to increase their ability to supply nutritious food and drink offerings to Queensland state school students.

School tuckshop upgrades might include:

  • new or refurbished facilities
  • catering appliances and equipment
  • stainless steel benches​
  • commercial sinks and tapware.

Applications for the School Playground and Tuckshop Upgrade program can be made by schools.​
