The Eat Right, Play Right, Learn Well program launched in 2022 with a $20 million fund for playground and tuckshop upgrades at schools in high-priority, disadvantaged communities.

The program was so popular with state schools that it was oversubscribed.

Expanding on the initial $20 million, an extra $29 million was announced as part of the 2023–24 State Budget so more schools could benefit from the popular program, and a further $101 million was provided as part of the 2023–24 Budget Update to fund the remaining eligible applications.

Through the program, schools were able to apply for funding of up to $500,000 to upgrade playgrounds, including to replace soft fall surfacing and install shade cover structures, and for tuckshops to purchase items such as catering appliances and equipment, install stainless steel benches and upgrade facilities.

The program assists school communities promote healthy behaviours that support learning and get kids moving, starting with the fundamentals of healthy eating and play.
