The department is investing in maintaining, improving and renewing schools across the state.
Great Schools, Great Future
The department is upgrading school infrastructure across the state. The 'Great Schools, Great Future' program was announced as part of the 2020–21 State Budget and is delivering new and upgraded multipurpose halls and performing arts centres, refurbishment of existing school infrastructure, and local projects such as Outside School Hours Care, playground and fencing upgrades.
Better learning environments
The department is investing in hundreds of infrastructure upgrades to improve schools across the state.
The 2024–25 budget includes $500 million over 4 years, 2024–25 to 2026–28, to plan and deliver high-quality learning environments to meet enrolment needs including, where necessary, safety and accessibility upgrades to ensure the availability of safe and accessible educational facilities for all children, students and the workforce.
School halls and performing arts centres
In 2024–25, the department will invest $130 million to deliver new or improved school halls and performing arts centres as part of the $259 million over 3 years for 18 projects including new halls, performing arts facilities and covered areas at selected state schools announced in 2023–24. Special schools
$181.3 million will be invested in renewal projects at 6 special schools.
Early childhood
As part of the 2024–25 State Budget, the department has committed to invest an additional $29 million in early childhood assets, including $20 million for family and early years school-based hubs in Aurukun and Kowanyama.
Discrete Indigenous communities
As part of the 2022–23 State Budget, the department announced $43.2 million over 4 years for infrastructure renewal projects in 18 discrete Indigenous communities.
Playgrounds and tuckshops
Across 2024–25, the department will invest $35 million for
playground and tuckshop upgrades as part of the 'Eat Right, Play Right, Learn Well' initiative.
Go for Gold Fund
The department is investing $100 million over 4 years to upgrade and build new sports infrastructure and supply equipment for students and their local communities across the state with the
Go for Gold Fund.
Maintain, sustain and enhance
The department has allocated $599 million in 2024–25 for the maintenance of state school buildings and grounds.
Tennis in State Schools Initiative
The Tennis in State Schools Initiative (TISSI) is a collaborative agreement between Tennis Queensland and the Department of Education.
A 3-year agreement totalling $2.2 million over 2022, 2023 and 2024 aims to promote healthy and active lifestyles by improving participation of students in the sport of tennis, through funding the delivery of upgraded or additional tennis facilities.

Flood Resilience Program
Up to $88.4 million has been allocated in the 2023–24 State Budget to deliver flood resilient educational infrastructure over 5 years where flooding events have the potential to cause significant disruption. Find out more about the Flood Resilience Program.
Land acquisitions fund
The department will continue to invest in land for new schools and school expansion as a part of the rolling $1 billion land fund announced in the 2023–24 State Budget.
Teacher housing
Committed to ensuring it attracts and retains capable and confident teachers in our rural and remote schools, and to provide access to subsidised teacher housing to eligible teachers, the department will invest an additional $45.1 million over 3 years, 2024–25 to 2026–27, to meet increased demand and costs for teacher accommodation. This is in addition to the $48.3 million over 4 years announced in the 2023–24 State Budget.
