The Queensland Government is investing in maintaining, improving and renewing schools across the state.
Great Schools, Great Future
The Queensland Government is upgrading school infrastructure across the state. The 'Great Schools, Great Future' program was announced as part of the 2020–21 State Budget and is delivering new and upgraded multipurpose halls and performing arts centres, refurbishment of existing school infrastructure, and local projects such as Outside School Hours Care, playground and fencing upgrades.
School renewal
The Queensland Government is investing in hundreds of infrastructure upgrades to improve schools across the state.
School halls and performing arts centres
The Queensland Government is investing $259 million over 3 years for 18 projects including new halls, performing arts facilities and covered areas at selected state schools. This is in addition to the 36 existing projects already committed to as part of the Great Schools, Great Future initiative.
Special schools
Over 4 years, $128.4 million will be invested in renewal projects at 6 special schools.
Discrete Indigenous communities
As part of the 2022–23 State Budget, the Queensland Government announced $43.2 million over 4 years for infrastructure renewal projects in 18 discrete Indigenous communities.
Playgrounds and tuckshops
The Queensland Government is investing $49 million for
playground and tuckshop upgrades.
Go for Gold Fund
The Queensland Government is investing $100 million over 4 years to upgrade and build new sports infrastructure and supply equipment for students and their local communities across the state.
Round 2 Go for Gold funding for sports infrastructure is now open.
Maintain, sustain and enhance
The department has allocated $430 million in 2023–24 to maintain existing facilities and modernise educational infrastructure to enhance learning outcomes.
Tennis in State Schools Initiative
The Tennis in State Schools Initiative (TISSI) is a collaborative agreement between Tennis Queensland and the Department of Education.
A three-year agreement totalling $2.2 million over 2022, 2023 and 2024, aims to promote healthy and active lifestyles by improving participation of students in the sport of tennis, through funding the delivery of upgraded or additional tennis facilities.

Tennis in State Schools Initiative funding is now open.
Flood resilience works
Over the next 5 years, $88.4 million has been committed to flood resilience works at schools where flooding events have the potential to cause significant disruption.
Land acquisitions fund
The establishment of a rolling $1 billion land fund in the 2023–24 State Budget will allow for the acquisition of land for new schools and school expansion.
Teacher housing
Safe and appropriate teacher housing in regional and remote communities will be provided with $48.3 million over 4 years through the 2023–24 State Budget.
