From 2016 to 2026, around 8,000 additional students are forecast to join the Queensland state school networks per year, with most growth within the south-east Queensland region.
The department is providing learning spaces to cater for growth and support contemporary learning. This includes additional classrooms to cater for growth and other programs of work, such as the 2020 Ready program.
2020 Ready
The 2020 Ready program delivered additional school infrastructure to support the additional student population in state secondary schools following the introduction of Prep in 2007.
With the original half-cohort of Prep students having graduated from high school at the end of 2019, the first 6 full secondary year levels are now occupying state high schools across the state in 2020.
A total of 61 schools across the state are now benefiting from the $250 million injection to help support schools to be 2020 ready.
