With nearly 40 years of experience in Queensland's education sector, Michael has worked across both regional and metropolitan communities, gaining a deep understanding of the diverse needs of schools throughout the state. Beginning his career as a teacher in Mount Isa, Michael quickly progressed to become the principal of Valkyrie State School. From Brooweena to Biboohra, Millchester to Kedron, his journey has been defined by a commitment to supporting Queensland's school communities.
Michael has a passion for emerging technology and its potential to enhance teaching and learning. This led him to central office, where he played a key role in implementing transformative initiatives such as OneSchool. Since 2015, Michael has served as Assistant Director-General of the department’s Information and Technologies Branch, where he has been instrumental in advancing digital teaching and learning opportunities, particularly in response to the challenges of COVID-19.
Michael is a strong believer in digital innovation, leading his division to transform how the department works, teaches and learns. By leveraging technology to streamline processes, foster collaboration and unlock student potential, he ensures that innovation remains purposeful and accessible. Michael firmly believes that technology should enhance, not replace, human connection and that meaningful change doesn't always require complexity—it can be as simple as using existing tools in new ways or sharing knowledge with colleagues.
