The Tennis in State Schools Initiative (TISSI) is a collaborative agreement between Tennis Queensland and the Department of Education.

The initiative aims to promote healthy and active lifestyles by improving participation of state school students in the sport of tennis, through funding the delivery of upgraded or additional tennis facilities.

Who can apply

All Queensland state schools are eligible to apply.

Schools seeking to develop an affiliation with Tennis Queensland or who have existing affiliation with Tennis Queensland will be considered favourably, however, affiliation is not a requirement for application. Interested schools are to contact Tennis Queensland directly to discuss the affiliate program.

Funding available

The initiative is a co-funding arrangement to be offered across the 2022, 2023 and 2024 calendar years. The program has a total budget of $2.2 million including GST.

The annual program budget of $733,333 comprises 25% from Tennis Queensland, 50% from the department's Infrastructure Investment Portfolio and 25% from eligible Queensland state schools that are successful in their application.

How to apply

The school principal, on behalf of the school community, is required to submit an application form and supporting documentation to the department's Subsidy Program Coordinator.

More information about funding and eligibility criteria is detailed in the Tennis in State Schools Initiative guidelines. Contact the Subsidy Program Coordinator at SchoolSubsidyScheme@qed.qld.gov.au or phone (07) 3034 4854 for further information.

Applications for the 2022–23 funding round are now closed.

Project delivery

Projects approved under the program are the responsibility of the school principal and are to be delivered using the Instructions for School Managed Facility Projects (departmental staff search for 'School Managed Facility Project instructions' in OnePortal). Advice may be provided by Infrastructure Services Division and the Regional Infrastructure Office (departmental staff search for 'regional advisory infrastructure services' in OnePortal).

All additions or improvements to the facilities must be in accordance with specifications provided by Tennis Queensland. The technical manual for the design, construction and maintenance of tennis facilities is available from Tennis Queensland.
