When planning for new schools, the department considers the capacity of the existing network, the ability to expand existing schools, growth in the local student population and land availability. These reviews inform the decision to establish new schools at the appropriate time and in the correct location to meet student demand.
This planning work is an important step in prioritising future investments in new school infrastructure. The department is planning for a number of new schools*, including:
- a new state school at Burpengary East
- a new high school in Greater Flagstone
- a new special school in Springfield/Redbank
- a new state school in Springfield
- a new state school in Toowoomba.
*A final investment decision has not been made regarding these future schools and will be dependent on ongoing monitoring and analysis of the population growth in these areas.
