Planning for new schools

The department actively monitors enrolment growth throughout Queensland to ensure all children have access to quality educational facilities.

When planning for new schools, the department considers the capacity of the existing network, the ability to expand existing schools, growth in the local student population and land availability. These reviews inform the decision to establish new schools at the appropriate time and in the correct location to meet student demand. This planning work is an important step in prioritising future investments in new school infrastructure.

The department is delivering the following schools to open in 2027:

• a new secondary school in Logan Reserve
• a new special school for Years P–12 in Logan Reserve
• a new special school in Central Logan​​
• new special school infrastructure in ​ Ipswich West
• a new special school in Springfield/Redbank.

The department is actively planning for the delivery of 12 schools to open in 2028 and beyond:

• a new primary school in Holmview (Bahrs Scrub)​​
• a new secondary school in Gracemere
• ​a new Health Sciences Academy in Rockhampton
• a new primary school in Caloundra South
• a new special school in Beenleigh
• a new special school in Moreton Bay South
• a new special school in Coomera/Pimpama
• a new secondary school in Ripley Valley
• a new special school in Townsville
• a new special school in Wynnum-Manly
• a new primary school in Ripley Valley
• a new primary school in Greater Flagstone

Additional new schools are under consideration*:

• a new secondary campus at Springfield
• a new primary school in Brisbane's inner west
• a new primary school in Caboolture West
• a new state school at Burpengary East
• a new secondary school in Greater Flagstone

*No investment decision has been made regarding these future schools. Timing will be dependent on ongoing monitoring and analysis of the population growth in these areas.​
