Since 2025, the Queensland Government, together with key community members and school representatives, has been working to develop a vision and identify stage 1, 2, and 3 educational improvements, new buildings and spaces for Lockhart State School.
What may change at Lockhart State School?
The outcomes we hope to achieve are:
- a master plan for Lockhart State School
- a list of prioritised projects for each master plan, categorised into stage 1, stage 2 and stage 3 potential projects.
Note: All proposed projects in the master plan are unfunded.

Community engagement
Parents, carers and the local communities were invited to have their say on the draft master plan from Tuesday 25 August 2026 until Friday 18 September 2026.
Community engagement activities included:

- school newsletter article
- Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council social media post
- face-to-face engagement sessions held
- Tuesday 8 September 2026 at Lockhart State School, Kuunchi Kakana Centre (KK Centre), Lockhart River Primary Health Care Centre (relocated to the shop) and Lockhart River ABIS Supermarket
- Wednesday 9 September 2026 at Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council.
All feedback received through community engagement is being considered by the project team.
