Since 2025, the Queensland Government, together with key community members and school representatives, has been working to develop a vision and identify stage 1, 2 and 3 educational improvements, new buildings and spaces for Coen Kindergarten and Cape York Aboriginal Australian Academy (Coen campus).
What may change at Coen Kindergarten and Coen campus?
The outcomes we hope to achieve are:
- a master plan for Coen Kindergarten
- a master plan for Coen campus
- a list of prioritised projects for each master plan, categorised into stage 1, stage 2 and stage 3 potential projects.

Note: All proposed projects in the master plan are unfunded.
Community engagement
Parents, carers and the local communities were invited to have their say on the draft master plan from Wednesday 3 June 2026 until Friday 3 July 2026.
Community engagement activities included:

- school Facebook posts
- school newsletter articles
- Cook Shire Council social media posts
- face-to-face engagement sessions held
- Tuesday 16 June 2026 at Armbrust & Co
- Wednesday 17 June 2026 at Coen Kindergarten.
All feedback received through community engagement is being considered by the project team.
